Last week the UK closed its last remaining coal fired power station becoming the first G7 economy to end its reliance on one of the dirtiest forms of fossil fuel to power its electricity grid. This is a major achievement for the UK – one year ahead of schedule – and came about because of a mixture of regulatory pressure and government [financial] incentives.
Michael Nicholson spoke to DW News in Germany and NewsMax Balkans in Serbia about this momentous development:
“Both main political parties deserve credit for shifting the UK away from coal and towards solar and wind power. The next step will be to reduce the UK’s reliance on gas, particularly imported gas, especially if we are to reach the new Government’s target of reaching 100% clean power by 2030”.
