Synopsis

Delivering a thriving circular economy is critical to ensure that we make the best use of the resources available to us, bolster supply chain resilience, and support delivery net zero and nature goals. This is a point recognised by businesses across the economy, they recognise the significant opportunities associated with circularity and are investing accordingly.

This business action must be strengthened by supportive policy if it is to reach its full potential and drive the change that we need to see. Regulatory and fiscal frameworks currently do not support a circular economy to their full potential, with existing regulations and markets often failing to reward resource-efficient products compared to cheaper, less environmentally friendly alternatives.

The report launched at this event will provide a comprehensive overview of the evolving circular economy legislative landscapes in the UK and the EU. It will examine areas of convergence and divergence, and the practical implications for businesses that are operating across borders. Speakers will reflect on the findings, and discuss how to deliver tangible progress in the future.
