IEEP UK welcomes Andy Jordan and Mercedes Sanchez Varela to its board of trustees. They both bring incredible experience to the help steer the organisation, which now has seven trustees.
Professor Andy Jordan is Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, and has over 30 years of experience in environment and climate change research and policy making. Mercedes Sanchez Varela is an EU sustainability and climate policy adviser, with long exposure in translating policy challenges into future-proof sustainable strategies for the private and public sectors. Mercedes is also chair of trustees of the organisation’s sister body – IEEP – in Brussels, helping to ensure a close working relationship between the two organisations.
On her appointment, Mercedes said: “I am honored to join the Board of IEEP UK at such a pivotal and urgent moment for our planet. With the EU and UK poised to ease tensions and build on areas of convergence, especially in climate and sustainability, there is a unique opportunity to strengthen collective action. Our shared responsibility is to transform challenges into opportunities, ensuring that environmental stewardship remains at the heart of Europe’s agenda.”
Andy also commented: “After a very long association with IEEP UK, I am honoured and delighted to be joining its Board of Trustees in this, its 50th year. I greatly look forward to working with colleagues to support its charitable purpose of advancing the education of the public in the protection of the environment in the continent of Europe.”
