The study examines the implementation of Directive 1999/94/EC relating to availability of consumer information on fuel economy and CO2 emissions with respect to the marketing of new passenger cars. It describes the regulatory framework for CO2 emissions and passenger cars, assesses the level of compliance in a number of Member States based on 10 case studies, and gives an overview of stakeholder positions on various aspects of the Directive. The study also develops and compares various policy issues to be addressed in the forthcoming revision of the Directive and provides the Environment Committee with concrete policy options.
