[Event] Is the UK-EU Reset on track for the environment?

On 5 February 2026, from 12:00-13:30 UK time, IEEP UK will be hosting a webinar on the state of the environmental commitments made as part of the UK-EU Reset.

In May 2025, the UK and EU held a Reset Summit which marked the most significant change in tone of relations since the Brexit vote, as well as major commitments to measures which see advances in cooperation and – inevitably – compromise.

From fishing deals to plans to link emissions trading schemes, to the veterinary agreement which will harmonise food and farming standards to ensure a smoother flow of trade, this webinar will explore what progress has been made to date on these commitments. What will their impact be on the environment, businesses, and the public?

With a commitment to hold annual reset summits, what might we expect on the agenda for this summer’s meeting – a progress update or developments on other issues? If the latter, could these developments include some of the lower hanging ‘environmental fruit’ such as alignment on chemicals and other policy areas, or the UK starting closer relationships with institutions including the European Environment Agency?

For this webinar, we will be joined by Alastair Carmichael MP, Chair of the EFRA Committee; Emily Lydgate, Professor of Environmental Law, Co-Director of the UK Trade Policy Observatory and Deputy Director of the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy at the University of Sussex; David Baldock, Honorary Fellow at IEEP UK; and Josie Cohen, Head of Policy and Campaigns at PAN UK. The session will be chaired by IEEP UK’s Executive Director, Ben Reynolds.
