On 22 October 2026 at 11.00-12.30 UK time, IEEP UK will be hosting a webinar to launch the 2026 edition of our annual state of play report on the latest in UK-EU divergence in environmental policy.

Building on our 2025 report, this report is part of a longer running project at IEEP UK to track and assess the significance of divergence in environmental policy, examining divergence across a broad swathe of environmental themes from agriculture and biodiversity to waste and water. The report also provides an assessment of the significance of divergence across these environmental themes and charts the relative position of the UK versus the EU in terms of its level of ambition.

Michael Nicholson, Head of Policy at IEEP UK, will be providing an overview of the latest developments across a range of key policy areas, as well as their significance, before the report’s findings are discussed by an expert panel chaired by Senior Lecturer in European Politics at Queen’s University Belfast and IEEP UK Trustee Dr Viviane Gravey. Speakers will include Toby Perkins MP, Chair of the Environmental Audit Committee, and Seamus Logan MP, the SNP’s Shadow Spokesperson for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Further speakers will be announced in due course.
