Coherent and strategic approach to environmental policy in the UK 

Now that the UK and its constituent nations devise their own environmental policy in a new governance and institutional landscape post Brexit; IEEP UK’s work in this area examines how a coherent and strategic approach can be built to better serve environmental protection in the UK.

 

We examine the mechanics and processes behind the formulation and implementation of environmental policies, ask questions about how it could be done better and take a holistic view of environmental governance. Our work is spread across a wide, often cross-cutting, range of issues.

 

Key tasks include monitoring current developments in EU and UK environmental policy, including the role of new bodies like the Office for Environmental Protection and Environmental Standards Scotland; the application of environmental principles, assessing environmental policy integration and policy coherence, assessing policy implementation and enforcement, and looking at the global dimension of UK environmental policy.
