[News] In memory of Caroline Jackson

IEEP honours the memory of Dr Caroline Jackson, who died recently. Caroline was one of the first generation of IEEP Board members and was Chair of the Board between 2005 and 2010. She was a prominent figure in the European Parliament, with a strong record on the environment. Caroline served 25 years as a Conservative MEP for constituencies in South West England and was chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Consumer Protection and Public Health between 1999 and 2004.

Well known for her determination to improve EU policy on waste and resource management in particular, she was responsible for reports on directives on landfill policy, product safety, food additives, better protection for package tourists, and on the use of live animals in experiments. She was a no-nonsense chair with a strong sense of purpose and dry wit, supporting the Institute at a time when our presence in Brussels was growing rapidly.

We would like to extend our condolences to Caroline’s family and loved ones.
